Welcome to the Cloughrinka Stables website! For years our goal has been to breed, raise & train quality All Around performance horses,- I believe we may have gotten it right. Please feel free to browse these pages & if you've any inquiries, please feel free to drop a line. ~BRB
Are you interested in horses with lots of athletic ability & good minds? So are we! Horses from our program have earned numerous national & regional titles and awards. They're also making great companions on the road to those championships.
Many of our horses claim foundation Quarter Horse breeding. Then again, our stables are home to several appendix QHs, too. The emphasis is on ability. The fact that many of them are also palominos is just an added extra!
The foundation of our operation has been the AQHA/PHBA/FQHA palomino stallion, Mr JB Dude. Sadly, we lost him this past January to colic. He was a once in a lifetime horse & his absence is beyond description. To put it simply, I loved that horse & he will always be in my thoughts & in my heart. Fortunately, he left behind many fine foals. We have two JB colts, both athletic & good minded, who will hopefully prove themselves to be of stallion caliber. So... are you wondering what the word "Cloughrinka" means?
Cloughrinka is the name of the Muckalee parish townland in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland where my late grandfather's farm is located... it's the family's 'old home place'.
"Cloughrinka" is Irish for "dancing stone." During the many dark years of the penal laws, anything Irish (religion, language, music, dancing, etc) in Ireland was severely penalized by the ruling British. The celebration of culture, if discovered, could be a death sentence.
When the moon was bright, the people in that particular area would meet at a large flat stone hidden back in the hills, far from prying eyes. Here, they could 'be'. The dancing stone, "Cloughrinka", was a sanctuary.
